Dr. Hazel Edwards (Ph.D. 1993) appointed to the Commission of Fine Arts by President Biden

June 30, 2021

Dr. Hazel Edwards was the first Black student to receive her Ph.D. in Regional Planning from our department, in 1993. She is now appointed to the Commission of Fine Arts by President Biden: “The CFA was established by Congress in 1910 as a permanent body to advise the federal government on matters pertaining to the arts and national symbols and to guide the architectural development of Washington, D.C. The seven-member body is appointed by the president to serve four-year terms; new appointees are not subject to Senate review.”

Dr. Edwards now serves as the Chair of Howard University’s Department of Architecture.
