Professor Magdalena Novoa is awarded an INCITE grant
Professor Magdalena Novoa and the Chilean-based scholar Professor Nicolas Moraga were awarded an INCITE Global Change Program grant for the project Landscapes of Ruination: Community Stewardship of Industrial Heritage and Climate Resilience. This community-engaged initiative addresses the loss of industrial heritage, social abandonment, and climate vulnerability in Lota, Chile. Once a thriving coal-mining hub, Lota now faces the consequences of mine closures, rising sea levels, and coastal erosion that threaten its historical remnants. The initiative aims to redefine the coastline, where labour history and communal recreation intersect, by engaging residents in participatory actions to reinterpret the significance of the ruins and the landscape.
