Planning professor Ruby Mendenhall selected as Urbana’s poet laureate

Ruby Mendenhall, a professor of urban & regional planning, sociology, and African American studies, and Associate Dean for Diversity and Democratization of Health Innovation at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, was appointed as Urbana's poet laureate. In an interview, she discussed her family roots, the honor of her appointment, and shared a poignant poem from her upcoming documentary on gun violence.
