About Rob Kowalski, FAICP
Rob Kowalski, FAICP is the Neighborhood Services Director for the City of Champaign. In that role he advances affordable housing initiatives and programs, oversees neighborhood coordination efforts and oversees the enforcement of property maintenance codes. Rob is trained as a city planner and has a 30-year career as a practicing planner for municipal government. This includes leading the city of Champaign’s long-range planning efforts, managing key land use and economic development projects as well as zoning policy reform that has resulted in more housing development in Champaign.
Rob holds a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Illinois State University.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and has been inducted in the College of Fellows. He has long been affiliated with the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association and served as Chapter President in 2010. He received the Chapter’s Distinguished Service Award in 2015.
