The Department of Urban and Regional Planning—a place where community spirit, fun activities, and friendly support all come together.

It’s Community!

Here you can build relationships. Our program attracts community-minded people who are passionate about what they do. The ideal size of our department facilitates connections among classmates and with faculty. The Student Planning Organization, Planners Network UIUC Chapter, and department-sponsored events bring students and faculty together. Whether it’s a holiday gathering in the Blicharski Atrium, kickball on the South Quad, or a potluck dinner, we offer a supportive and friendly environment.

It’s fun!

Our 2 cities and the university offer outstanding cultural, artistic, and social opportunities. It’s a fun place to live! Hear a guest lecture. Go to an exhibition opening at the Krannert Art Museum. Or see a game or a concert at the State Farm Center. Downtown Champaign offers restaurants, shops, night clubs, and art galleries. Urbana’s Market at the Square is one of the largest farmers’ markets in Illinois, showing the community’s commitment to sustainability. The average commute in Urbana-Champaign is less than 14 minutes, so you can walk to most venues. Here fun is affordable!
